GPT-6 Intelligent UI brings interactive answers to ChatGPT Chat. The practical question is whether a generated control helps you make a sound decision, rather than merely making an answer look finished.
What OpenAI announced
OpenAI announced the rollout on October 7, 2026. Responses can combine text with charts, forms, buttons and interactive experiences. Paid Chat tiers began first, with Free and Go following; workplace administrators can affect Enterprise access. The announcement explicitly leaves Work and Codex model versions unchanged. A rollout announcement therefore does not establish that every account, conversation or device already has the same interface.
Start with a question that benefits from controls
Our suggested first task is a travel-budget comparison with three editable inputs: party size, nights and accommodation budget. Ask for the assumptions beside the controls and a plain-text result underneath. Change one input at a time. If doubling the party size fails to change a per-person expense correctly, the interaction has exposed a reasoning problem rather than solved it. Attractive controls cannot repair an incorrect formula.
An interface needs an inspectable answer
For a savings calculator, request the formula, contribution timing and interest assumption. For a chart, request axis units and the underlying data. For a comparison, request the source dates. These are our acceptance criteria, not claims that the product always supplies them. Keep the original question and a few changed-input results together, so a reviewer can reproduce the decision without relying on a screenshot of the initial state.
Accessibility and fallbacks matter more than novelty
Our design recommendation is to try keyboard navigation, narrow-screen layout and an equivalent text answer before depending on an interactive response. A control that is difficult to operate can make a simple question harder. Ask for a numbered explanation when the interface becomes crowded. When sharing the answer with a colleague, include assumptions and values, because the recipient may be viewing a different client or may need a static record.
When a dedicated application remains useful
Use a generated mini-tool to explore a bounded question, then move consequential records into a system with the review and persistence you require. A household estimate and an audited financial calculation have different acceptance standards. We have not tested this rollout or measured task completion. For a bill splitter, include a zero-cost item and an uneven split; these simple edge cases make the arithmetic easier to inspect.
