Is a new AI model worth switching to? A practical checklist

Another model announcement arrives before you have finished learning the last one. You do not need to rebuild your workflow every time. First identify the part of your current job that is slow, unreliable or missing a needed control. Then use the checklist below to decide whether the release deserves a small trial.

Verify the exact release

Runway's changelog records model and product updates with dates and plan labels. Comfy Org separately documents local workflow integrations. Use original release notes to distinguish a new model from a new interface, provider integration or availability change.

Write the migration question

Instead of asking whether a model is the best, write what your present workflow cannot do. Perhaps you need a particular reference input, a longer shot or less manual cleanup. A specific problem makes the comparison falsifiable: either the new workflow handles the brief within your budget or it does not.

Check four things before paying

Build a short record from the vendor's current documentation. Keep the access date because interfaces, model aliases and plan limits can change.

• Availability: your region, account tier and intended API or app.
• Controls: inputs, duration, aspect ratio, output format and editing options.
• Cost: what consumes credits, what is billed on failure and which steps are extra.
• Fit: your accepted-result criteria and downstream editing requirements.

Run a small switch test

Save a baseline job and try the alternative with the same brief. Count the time to inspect, revise and export—not just generation time.
